What do I do if my pharmacy will not accept the Ohio’s Best Rx card?
One reason why the pharmacy might not accept your card is that it has expired. Please check the effective date on your card; it should read “Effective for 1 year beginning…” If you have not received a renewal letter or a sticker for the current year to place on your card, please contact 1-866-923-7879.

If your card is current, the issue might be that your pharmacy is not enrolled as a participating pharmacy in the Ohio’s Best Rx program. The pharmacy can resolve this by calling our 24-hour pharmacy help desk at 1-800-361-4542; the help desk staff will enroll the pharmacy on a temporary basis so that you can fill your prescription immediately. The help desk will also send the pharmacy a contract that it must complete and return in order to permanently join the program.

Only under a few, limited circumstances can a person use the Ohio’s Best Rx card if he or she has prescription drug insurance coverage. For example, if a participant receives Worker’s Compensation benefits, which has very limited prescription coverage, they would be eligible for prescription purchases for which they are responsible for paying 100% “out-of-pocket.” Also, even if one member of a household has prescription insurance and does not qualify for Ohio’s Best Rx, other members of the same household might still be eligible for Ohio’s Best Rx if they do not have prescription drug insurance, and should apply for Ohio’s Best Rx. The Ohio’s Best Rx customer service operators will be able to tell you for sure.

Can individuals on Medicaid have the Ohio’s Best Rx card?
Ohio’s Medicaid program provides comprehensive coverage of prescription and some over-the-counter medications. While certain Medicaid consumers may be subject to a small co-pay for specified drugs, in most cases the total cost of the prescription is covered by Medicaid and at no cost to the consumer.

However, if an individual is on Medicaid spend down (under which the individual is required to spend their own money for medical costs each month before Medicaid coverage begins), the Ohio’s Best Rx card can be used for the time period when an individual is not eligible for the Medicaid benefit.
